Players will notice these bones blocking key pathways, including the main wooden bridge that connects both sides of the area. Fortunately, clearing these obstacles is straightforward once you unlock specific Royal Shovel upgrades through character quests.
Unlocking the First Shovel Upgrade for Small Bones
To start removing small bones scattered around the Sunlit Plateau, players must first reach Friendship Level 3 with Scar. Unlocking Scar involves progressing through the main storyline until you can access his home inside the giant elephant skull in the plateau. Once the level requirement is met, Scar offers a quest titled Breaking Bones, which initiates your shovel upgrade journey.
During this quest, Scar tasks you with collecting specific crafting materials, including Lion's Claws, Dry Wood, and Iron Ingots. Lion's Claws can be excavated from glowing dirt spots along the plateau's edges, while Dry Wood is gathered from drier biomes like Frosted Heights or Forgotten Lands. After crafting the Lion's Claw Shovel Head at a workbench, apply it from your inventory to gain the ability to dig up small bones.
Upgrading Further to Remove Large Bones
Clearing the larger wildebeest bones that completely block the bridge requires reaching Friendship Level 7 with Scar. At this stage, Scar unlocks the quest known as The Circle of Life, which focuses on empowering your tool even further. Completing this story arc is essential for players who wish to fully explore and decorate every corner of the valley.
To assemble the Roaring Shovel Head needed for large obstacles, you must venture inside the local cave system to locate Old Bones. You will also need to craft Purified Night Shards and plant bone ashes until they blossom into a Flower of Bones. Using this ultimate attachment upgrades your Royal Shovel, enabling you to break the giant bone clusters blocking the bridge and gain easy access to both sides of the plateau.
Maintaining Your Cleared Pathways and Resources
Once you clear the initial bones blocking the bridge, small bone obstacles will periodically respawn across the ground in Sunlit Plateau. Breaking these recurring nodes with your upgraded shovel is a reliable way to gather extra Clay, which is a key crafting ingredient for many building projects.
If you have not yet completed Scar's level 7 quest, you can temporarily access the locked side of the biome using Furniture Mode. By moving the Wishing Well directly to the isolated side, you can fast-travel across the river immediately. However, completing Scar's storylines remains the best permanent solution for a clean and fully connected village layout.
